Paraphrasing

Dear Student,

Paraphrasing is rewriting other people’s work in your own words.

Paraphrasing can be done with individual sentences or entire paragraphs. When we paraphrase, we express the meaning using different words. We often paraphrase texts in order to achieve greater clarity.

Here is an example:
Cows like hay and they can consume 24 pounds of food a day.

Paraphrased sentence:
A cow can eat up to 24 pounds of hay every day.

It is important to remember the following:

When paraphrasing, keep the original meaning but present (write) it in a new form, i.e. write something in your own words that expresses the original idea.
